Staying inspired and focused while in quarantine is very hard. I am constantly thinking about all of the things I want to accomplish. Most of them are creative projects or ideas that get my mind going a mile a minute. I think this is because of the planets in my 5th house if I look at my chart in Placidus Style (Imma dive into the meaning of that in a second).
Feeling like I can focus, or didn't feel up to doing any of my creative tasks got me thinking. Where in Astrology do you look for inspiration?
the definition of inspiration is "the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative". So there are a few keywords here that lead us to where in the chart you can locate what I am calling "activation points" or "Inspo-spots".
As with everything else- everyone is so different and inspiration can strike from many different things. These are just some key areas to look at and to think about if you are trying to feel more inspired or activate your creativity.
"Mental Stimulation" - As an astrologer, this immediately brings up thoughts of Mercury. Merc, being the planet of communication and the way we absorb information is a key player in how we get stimulated mentally. "Stimulation" also gives me thoughts of Venus and how one feels pleasure, excitement, or that warm and fuzzy feeling that can inspire creative projects and passionate pursuits.
While it is important to look at both of these planets separately - it is helpful to look at their relationship in the chart and see how they work together. If your mercury and Venus are experiencing different feelings it could be hard for you to focus your energy. (Mars is another planet to pay attention to but that will be left for another article.)
"Creativity"- The 5th house is where a lot of creative inspiration can come from. This house in the chart not only represents creativity but your childhood or the essence of childlike wonder - where many find the root of their skills or have experiences that influence their creative outlook.
Here, you would also want to locate your house ruler. This is the planet that contributes to the energy of that house - (different from the planets that are actually in that house). This can be determined by looking at the sign your 5th house is ruled by and looking at the planet that is traditionally known to rule that sign. For example, in the chart below you will see that my 5th house is ruled by Leo, the planet that rules that sign is the Sun which, ironically is in the 5th house itself.
Another example is if the 5th house was ruled by Pisces you would then look for where Jupiter is in the chart as Jupiter is Pisces' traditional Ruler. The sign that Jupiter is in can help you understand the influences Jupiter will have on the 5th house.
"Feel something" - Your Moon Sign indicates the essence of your emotional body. Understanding your moon sign can help you understand where you may be more inclined to focus your emotional energy. Inspiration is a kind of emotion in itself, right? Either way, understanding how you process your emotions can help us understand why or why not we are feeling inspired depending on what activity we are trying to get the energy to perform.
I am going to go over this in my natal chart below.
My chart has a huuuuge activation point in my Placidus style chart in Leo. I have Venus at 7 degrees Leo, my Sun at 12 degrees Leo, both in the 5th house. Then Mercury at 20 degrees Leo, however, it lands in the 6th house.
"Mental Stimulation" - My Mercury in Leo in the 6th house helps me understand how I perceive mental simulation. With mercury being in the sixth house this shows that I may benefit from routine when it comes to getting into a mentally stimulating vibe. Being in the sign of Leo this can be tough because Leos are full of energy and spontaneous, making settling into a routine a bit difficult. This is where I would have to look at the current planetary placements to understand a good time for when to settle down and get something done. Additionally, Chiron sits in my 6th house but Virgo instead. This still influences the process of "mental stimulation" probably indicating troubles settling down and focusing.
As I mentioned above, it is important to look at the relationship between Mercury and Venus and mine are in the same sign, only 13 degrees apart but in different houses. Venus is in my fifth house which is where creativity and inspiration thrives, this placement is probably what fuels my creative ideas and why I love coming up with projects and (the idea of) working on them.
"Creativity"- The Fifth House is the house with the most power in my chart with my Sun and Venus there, the sun being the ruler of the house as well. This suggests that 5th house themes can be prominent in my life. I also practice the 5th house being defined as "the house of new perspectives". Most of my creative projects are surrounded by creating new perspectives with my astrology practice.
"Feel something" - My Moon is in my 8th house, in Scorpio. This is not only a very emotional placement but Scorpio is known as "The Investigator of the Zodiac. This could contribute to the fact that I get a little disappointed when I don't know all the facts and get stuck when trying to explain myself/ or work through a project. This feeling is something I am afraid of which could contribute to why I push away some of my goals or procrastinate.
Turns out, I have been reading Natal Charts for others for over 3 years now! WOW! Time actually flies when you are having fun. But, gaining enough confidence in my self to read astrology charts for others people was not easy - heck it still isn't! I wanted to share a few things for others who are looking to read for their friends, or strangers.
1) Read Your Own Chart First
I began my astrology journey by getting all the deets on astrologycafe.com. When I still wasn't satisfied i purchased a copy of The Only Astrology Book You Will Ever Need by Joanna Woolfolk where she walks you through creating your own chart! I used the book to read more about ALL of my planetary placements and then began to do the same for a few family members. I kept paying attention to the transits, particularly the moon cycles and how they interacted with my signs to begin to create my own understanding and definitions of the planets/signs/houses and their energies. Personal experiences is soooo valuable with astrology because it is through our own feeling and interpretations as we pay attention to our personal astrology that we come to feel confident in pour knowledge and trust in astrology.
2) Listen to Podcasts / Webinars
My favorite way to learn is through the knowledge of experiences astrologers. There are so many who have started podcasts, where they explain a variety of topics and often go through the basics of astrology and walk listeners through hither understanding. My Favorite podcast is The Astrology Podcast. Chris Brennan has creating a huge vault of lectures and lessons as well as monthly/yearly forecasts and Interviews with other renowned Astrologers.
3) Be Comfortable with Constantly Learning
Astrologers are forever students. There is so much to learn, so many different ways to interpret/ factors to take into account. New theories in astrology and its history are coming up frequently. No chart is the exact same and neither are astrology teachers. If you are looking to take reading astrology more seriously you need to be comfortable with the fact that you may not always know everything. You may come across aspects or concepts you don't 100% understand yet all the time. Additionally, you may need to tell your client that!
4) Trust Your Self / Intuition
Although I just mentioned that sometimes there will be things that are new to you while reading a natal chart or discussing Astrology, my BIGGEST tip is for other readers to trust themselves and their Intuition. I am the type of astrologer who sees the practice as a spiritual experience and reads through practical astrology concepts as well as my own intuition. Some of you then may identify as intuitive astrologers, others may not. Either way there will be a point where you need to remind yourself to trust yourself and that "intuitive" feeling or what the chart is telling you. Be fearless!
